Hermitage Museum
The largest museum in Russia — and at the same time one of the richest and oldest museums in the world, ranking alongside the Metropolitan, the Prado and the Louvre. The complex of buildings commissioned by Empress Elizabeth as the Winter Palace today hosts some of the most dazzling collections in the world. In these magnificent buildings, where the Russian Tsars spent the winter months from 1754 onwards, around 3 million works are housed today in 1,057 rooms and halls — from prehistoric artifacts to the classics of 20th-century art. Alongside the captivating works of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Rembrandt and many other great artists, belongings and carriages of the Tsars' families are on display.

Peter & Paul Fortress
The first structure built in Saint Petersburg, commissioned by Peter the Great in 1703. The Cathedral within the fortress on the Neva River and the tombs of the Romanov dynasty inside it attract many tourists. The angel atop the Cathedral — the tallest building in the city — has in a sense become the symbol of the city. The famous fortress dungeons, where Dostoevsky, Trotsky and Lenin's brother Alexander were once held, have housed many famous figures over the years. Moreover, the view of the city from here creates a truly enchanting panorama.

Peterhof Palace & Gardens
The summer palace on the Gulf of Finland, whose plans Peter the Great drew himself. A magnificent palace complex whose building and gardens rival the Palace of Versailles in Paris. A splendid garden arrangement adorned with 150 monumental fountains, 4 cascades and hundreds of gilded statues will dazzle you. Built in 1714 by Peter the Great with the help of famous Italian architects, the palace suffered great damage during World War II — but after the war it was restored in all its splendor, faithful to its original architecture.

Pushkin Town: Catherine's Summer Palace & Gardens
The park, palace and building complex known as the Tsar's Village, built in the 18th century by Empress Catherine, wife of Peter the Great. The main building of the town, which covers an area of 600 hectares, is the Catherine Palace — home to the world-famous Amber Room. In this famous town where the aristocracy of the Tsarist era met with the Tsar's family, you will also find the school where Pushkin, the father of Russian literature, studied.
